This thing completely changed my start game. Instead of setting up automation, its now race to see how many stationary miners I can fit on an ore patch. The mining speed and efficiency is insane. The only downside is I can't process the ore fast enough now.

Just out of curiosity I set up 4 burners going into one chest and then put the miner beside them. I fed 1 coal into each burner (4 coal total), and then just 1 coal unit into the miner. The miner processed its single coal piece putting out 40 ore units while the burners were still at half power each. In the end, the 4 burners managed to put out 36 units (in total) taking twice the time, and 4x the amount of coal. Building the miner is definitely the better choice in both speed and efficiency.

Yea, I feel these are too fast and too efficient, they need to be nerfed. They make electric mining drills useless, and are researchable far before. Barely output any pollution and such.

It takes me 6 electric mining drills to keep up with one single truck. So I can't power my base with a small number of electric drills at the start. However, plop down one truck, and I can power 16 steam engines permanently while it self powers and hardly uses any power its self, barely outputting any pollution too.

Testing the latest version on vanilla iron ore (because ore hardness makes a difference): A burner miner and mining vehicle given the same armount of fuel (16MJ), the burner miner mines more ore (15 vs 15). So the mining vehicle is slighty less efficient. Note that the mining vehicle was not moving so that was not affecting the results, no research was researched, and no additional mods were used.

There's also a mining speed multplier so you can adjust it as you like.
