U.P.S. Silo (Unified Production Supply Silo)

A wide/tall buffer chest for train-loading megabases with many stations. Unlike merged/warehouse chests, which add more slots as they grow, this keeps a fixed, small slot count and multiplies per-slot stack size instead - it stays UPS-efficient no matter how wide it gets, and reads out over a single circuit wire.

Changelog

Version: 0.2.0
Date: 2026-09-08
  Features:
    - Collapsed the 53 separate craftable silo items down to a single generic
item, carried and dragged to size/orientation on the map (1xN or Nx1
selection, up to 27 tiles) - the specific sized silo is resolved right
there at build time, not chosen ahead of time at the crafting menu.
No more stocking 27+ dedicated items per orientation: a requester
chest or a bot's own cargo needs only the one generic item, in a
quantity matching whatever mix of sizes it's building, and manual
(non-bot) building works the same way.
    - Rotating (the same key as vanilla's rotate) while holding a silo item
or ghost-aim swaps it for its same-size opposite-orientation
counterpart, since horizontal and vertical are separate entities
rather than direction variants of one. Doesn't affect blueprint
contents - see the README's Known limitations.
    - Silos now show the vanilla slot-limiter bar in their GUI, letting you
cap how many of the 10 slots are usable, same as any other chest.
  Changes:
    - Deconstruction always collapses a silo back into the generic items,
      never a specific sized one.
    - Bots prefer building from an owned specific item when available,
falling back to the generic item (linear in size) otherwise.
    - Pipetting (Q) a ghost or an already-built silo redoes the same
      generic-to-specific trade.
    - Remote view only ever produces a free ghost-aim when pipetting, never
manifests or consumes a real item, since there's no physical body
      present to hold one there.
  Info:
    - The 53 specific sized items are meant to exist only momentarily, in
the cursor, mid-placement. The stray-item reclaim only watches the
player's own main inventory, so a specific item can still persist
elsewhere if it's moved directly into another inventory without ever
passing through the main one - e.g. shift-click-transferred straight
into a chest, a vehicle trunk, a train wagon, or another player's
inventory, or picked up off the ground by a construction bot or
spidertron rather than a player. This is harmless (the item is fully
functional and still correctly builds its silo) but means it won't
automatically collapse back into the generic item in those cases.
    - Upgrading an existing save from 0.1.0: already-placed silos are
unaffected - entity names didn't change. Old specific sized items
(crafted under the old per-size recipes) remain valid and placeable
too; any sitting in a player's own main inventory will automatically
convert into the equivalent generic items the next time that
inventory changes, while any sitting elsewhere (a chest, a vehicle,
bot cargo) are left alone and stay usable as-is. The old per-size
recipes themselves no longer exist at all though - any assembling
machine set to craft one will lose that recipe selection and needs
to be manually reassigned to craft the generic item instead.
