Tiny trains for your tiny needs. Makes rails and wagons 1 wide, and shortens the wagons to 3 height. Now you can fit a train in between your assemblers and beacons. Rails still move on a 2x2 grid.
Not sure whats going on but I put 3 stacks of fuel in the tiny train and it just disappears and only starts consuming the first one. I can send you my save file if you'd like.
I haven't changed any fuel logic. What fuel are you using? In case of nuclear fuel this also happens in vanilla (and with all fuel sources). It will only remove fuel once it starts consuming.
