T.H.U.D - Total Hull Unscheduled Descent

by Klaudia

Emergency landing: bring any space platform down to the planet it is orbiting. Aim it where you like, and the whole platform - machines, cargo and anyone aboard - comes down onto the ground, still wired and still powered. Its hub becomes a landing pad. There is no way back up, except the usual one.

Changelog

Version: 2.1.3
Date: 2026-10-18
  Bugfixes:
    - Fixed the game failing to load alongside a mod whose graphics give a size and also a different, stale width or height (for example Carna).
Version: 2.1.2
Date: 2026-10-18
  Bugfixes:
    - Fixed the game failing to load alongside a mod whose graphics have an invalid sprite priority, blend mode or flag in a field the game never reads.
Version: 2.1.1
Date: 2026-10-17
  Bugfixes:
    - Fixed the mod failing to load on Factorio versions before 2.1.21. It now requires 2.1.21 or later.
  Changes:
    - The landing preview shows the platform in its own colours instead of tinted green and blue. Red still marks where a plain click cannot land. Needs Factorio 2.1.22 or later; older versions show the usual tints.
  Optimizations:
    - Reduced Lua script time for preview checking on click, creation of the landing sprites, and the final cloning step for landing the platform.
  Modding:
    - A landing no longer raises script_raised_set_tiles for the floor it writes.
    - Other mods can have their entities land as something else, such as a platform-only twin of a machine that comes down as the real thing: name the pair in the "thud-landing-replacements" mod-data. The two must be fast-replaceable with each other; contents, settings, wires, quality and health carry over, and the landing preview shows the replacement.
Version: 2.1.0
Date: 2026-10-11
  Major Features:
    - Initial release.
    - Emergency landing: a button on every space platform hub's window brings the platform down to the planet it is orbiting. Aim it anywhere on the planet below with a preview of the platform in your cursor, and click.
    - The whole platform comes down: every tile and machine, its cargo, and anyone aboard. Inventories, wires, fluids, filters and quality all come down with it.
  Features:
    - An alarm sounds and the platform's shadow grows over the landing site, giving anyone there time to run, before the platform falls out of the sky in flames and lands with a flash and a bang.
    - The hub becomes a Landed platform hub: a cargo landing pad that keeps the hub's cargo and its cargo bays, and receives deliveries from orbit. Mining it gives back a space platform starter pack.
    - The landed floor is one electric network, and a single pole anywhere on it connects it to the rest of your grid.
    - Whatever was standing at the landing site is destroyed. If any of it is yours you are warned first, and a second shift-click on the same spot lands anyway.
    - A landing needs solid ground. Shift-click to land anyway over water or lava, leaving the part of the platform over it behind.
    - Machines that cannot exist on the planet, such as asteroid collectors and thrusters, come down wrecked, spilling whatever they held.
  Changes:
    - Crushers can be built on planets, so a landed platform's crushers can be put back after they are mined.
