FAQ

How do I toggle the transparency?

Click the rail icon shortcut button in your toolbar This will instantly toggle ALL elevated rails, rail ramps, and supports between transparent and normal across the entire map.

Can I change the transparency percentage while playing?

No but, the transparency percentages are startup settings that are baked into the entity sprites. You must restart the game after changing them in Settings > Mod Settings > Startup. However, you can toggle between transparent and normal states at any time with the shortcut button.

What happens at 100% transparency?

At 100% transparency, the entities become completely invisible AND non-selectable. This allows you to click through them entirely to interact with factory elements below.

Does this affect trains or rail signals?

No, only the elevated rails, rail ramps, and rail support structures become transparent. Trains, signals, and stations remain fully visible(it's an engine thing). The mod won't replace rails that currently have trains on them - it will retry automatically when the train leaves.

What if I build new elevated rails while transparency is enabled?

Newly built structures will automatically adopt the current transparency state. If transparency is ON, new rails will be transparent immediately.

Does this preserve rail quality, circuit connections, or deconstruction orders?

Yes! The mod preserves all properties when switching between transparent and normal variants, including quality, circuit connections, deconstruction orders, and upgrade markers.

Does this work with modded elevated rails?

Yes, it should work with most mods that add elevated rail variants, as the mod creates transparent versions based on all registered elevated rail types.

Is this compatible with Space Age?

Yes! The mod works with Factorio 2.0+ including Space Age, and will affect elevated rails on all planets/surfaces.

Will this affect game performance?

The replacement process is pretty slow but it shouldn't be toggled that often. Once toggled, the transparent entities perform identically to normal rails.

Can I have different transparency settings for different surfaces or areas?

No, the transparency is global and affects all elevated structures across all surfaces simultaneously.

Why are my transparency settings not working?

Remember that transparency percentages are startup settings. After changing them, you must fully restart Factorio (not just reload the save) for the changes to take effect.
