...with a few tweaks, of course:

  • repair packs would need to be inserted directly into each tower (like magazines into Gun turrets)
  • towers cannot repair entities that are being damaged
  • (optional) remove the upgrades to keep it a weak early game tool that relieves the tedium of running around repairing stuff, but can't keep up later once Big biters show up

I don't think it would be overpowered and (in my humble opinion) the lack of autorepair options before construction bots has always been a very bad decision. And it's not like having repair towers would defeat the purpose of Roboport network around the walls - they are still needed to replace destroyed entities.

Is there even a downside to this awesome mod? I cannot imagine playing the game without it.

It is in fact, very OP.

I have used it on an OARC map with custom made Blueprints to just turret creep all over the map without leaving my own base. I did in fact ALL the way to a Silo: https://i.imgur.com/OjTISdb.jpg

In fact, you can "teleport" resources as well across the entire map with the Repair Turrets, I forget the exact "trick" to do so, but I was using it to restock remote Artillery installations.

I think it's a REALLY neat and fun mod, but it IS incredibly OP as it stands. It would need a bunch of "additional settings" for server use to stop players pulling shenanigans.

Used to it's max capability, it literally trivializes the entire game.

EDIT: The reason you see mines is because they were INCREDIBLY efficient with Repair Turrets. As soon as one exploded, the turrets would restock from inventory so I had a constant refreshed minefield that basically killed everything because all the turrets around worked together . Did not even need laser turrets, thats why you see ONE per 16x16 grid.

aah, that's why you need the ability to disable construction. I love this mod but it's just too powerful with construction. Its still allows your mines to be replaced by your logictic network, but it's not immediate, which just feels wrong
