Most of the entities which are already in the mod will be in 2.0 as well, but the tech tree, recipes and balance will be completely different, not to mention the bunch of other new stuff that'll be introduced. You'd have to pretty much re-research and rebuild almost everything RFP-related.
First I'll release just the fusion power portion of the mod, then weaponry and antimatter some time later as separate mods.
2.0 will also have none of the current compatibilities with other mods on release so you'll also have to wait for me to update the patches afterwards.
Unless you're willing to wait probably months for me to do all of that, I'd say you can start playing with the current version.
