g Underground attack mechanics

Hi, I have a question about the underground attack mechanics.
I have a map with quite a lot of water and I set up blockades in several far-off chokepoints. Your say that the biters won't cross large bodies of water, but I am getting attacked constantly by underground attacks and haven't been able to catch from where they originate. Also no I don't have artillery.

Currently I see no counterplay other than to use landfill to make a 100% boxed in base, making walls over water even. But I think that's rather silly.

The biters could of course just be crossing some shallow water and then traveling the rest by land (while underground). But it happens so often that it feels extremely tedious and I feel like I just have to set up a second wall all around myself anyway.

I know I can turn the underground attack off, I just want to know if there's any actual counterplay other than literally boxing yourself in.

Take a look at this image. Are you saying that the biters will just yolo-lmao over the water trenches even if they're super far away and there's a clear path over land?
It also looks like they came from the north-west which is exactly where one of my turret walls is set up. I don't necessarily dislike the underground attack mechanic, I just don't know what to do, save for again boxing myself in

Again! And 2 this time! I even lowered the odds of underground attacks to 0.04 bro.

If I have to really wall myself off completely or gonna be paranoid about every little place the biters could cross the water, then I'm just gonna turn off the underground attacks because without clear counterplay this just isn't fun.

"just place more turrets", if countering regular biter attacks requires an absolutely disproportionate logistical investment in either resources or power then it's not fun for me.

Ok I set up some walls near the narrow water passages and the attacks have almost fully stopped
