I can't reproduce the error. From what I can see from your message, you have the wrong path:
The correct one is: ..... /graphics/icons/thief/crystal-drain.png".
Perhaps you have a modified version of the mod

I've sometimes seen similar situations on forums where people downloaded mods for a "unofficial" version of Factorio, unpacked the mods, and misplaced the directories.
If you unpacked the mod, check that the file exists at the specified path.

Pls disregard. I have discovered the issue i didn't really troubleshoot as i had work to do. Embarrassingly enough i fixed it earlier this morning and forgot to update. This was due to me using a compatibility tool while installing mods when factorio has native support on linux. This created wrongs path, funnily enough this is the only mod that had an issue.

first i thought it was a case sensitivity issue and i only realized my mistake after i tried to search for the file and i saw it was located under a proton path. after getting rid of the version installed using proton with the in game manager it booted without further issues. oddly enough i had to reinstall factorio cause it keept trying to install the mod in the wrong path.

Your answer does hold true and would have helped me fix it if i didn't realized this earlier, thank you very much.

*edit: i didn't mentioned linux cause it has happened in the past that mod makers just typed "i don't use linux" and ghosted me after, so i was being disingenuous and i apologize.
