If you turn off "enable new enemies" in the settings, expanding the nest will increase the number of biter nests but not the number of spitter nests.
Growth states don't seem to work with this setting.

On a separate note, the Demolisher Attack Interval setting appears to be hidden.

If you turn off "enable new enemies" in the settings, medium worms will appear at all evolution factor when expanding the nest.
