I am curious as to what avenue I would have to take to add in different types of gfx for different biter factions (for example, using zergling gfx for suicide biters).

The idea is interesting, but it is better to change the graphics with a separate mod. Anyone who wants to will gladly install that mod
Since I am not very familiar with the nuances of searching/creating graphic files for Factorio, someone else will have to do it
