g Fix for 0.18.22

4 years ago

I know this mod hasn't been officially updated to Factorio 0.18 yet. However if you've managed to change "factorio_version" to "0.18" in info.json (that's all that should be required to update it!), you may have experienced a crash on starting with Factorio 0.18.22.

To fix it, just open data.lua and change

consuming = "all"

to

consuming = "game-only"

This should be done in lines 15, 21, and 27.

I have 3 mods with this problem. You just saved me some quite some time making 3 different posts. Thanks a bunch. :D

I have 3 mods with this problem.

I'm glad my post wasn't useless then! :-)

By the way, there's another change may be necessary: "script-only" must be changed to "none". Actually, you could also delete such lines altogether because "none" is the default value.

In your place, I'd make sure this already has been reported for the other mods and leave a link to this announcement otherwise! I've been lucky enough to see that the day before the update, but I've missed other announcements before that, so that I couldn't prepare for the changes in time. Sure, this is a general game crasher, so chances are somebody has beat you to reporting it. But I've several mods with just a small user base, and I'd certainly like to know as soon as possible if something goes wrong so that I can fix that. :-)

A quick fix for 0.18.22 would be nice while waiting for the full update promised.

A quick fix for 0.18.22 would be nice while waiting for the full update promised.

It doesn't make sense for the mod author to update to 0.18 just to fix something that doesn't need to be fixed in the only version he supports at the moment. Yes, Factorio 0.18 has been released some time ago, and yes, it would be nice if this mod had been already been updated. But, you know, even modders may have a life beyond Factorio, and sometimes other things may be more important than fixing a mod.

For my part, I'm neither the author of nor collaborating on this mod -- I'm just one of its users who updated and fixed it locally for his own use. Just thought I'd share how I've done this so others can continue playing with this mod.

If you want a quick fix, you've already got all the information that's needed: Go to the folder where your Factorio mods are installed (sorry, can't tell you where that will be on your system; I've seen people mentioning strange pathnames for Windows, but that's not the OS I use), look for PavementDriveAssist_2.1.11.zip, unpack it, change the value of "factorio_version" in info.json (if you haven't done so already) and edit data.lua with any text editor you like. It really can't be that hard...

For you and to a lesser extent me yes there is all the information needed to fix the issue. However not everyone knows how to fix the issue or don't for fear of messing things up. Also I use steam and one reason to bump the mod to 0.18.22 is so the mod shows up in the in game mod portal.

Don't know how to change a file in a mod? Just ask how to do that! People have done that before, and have got answers before. Fear of messing things up? That's what backups are for. Copying the zip file to another location before messing around with it shouldn't be that hard. Heck, just unpack it and edit the unpacked version! It will be preferred to the zipped version on loading, so if you mess up you can still delete the folder, unpack the archive again, and start over.

I'm not familiar with steam, so the following may not apply: I've all of the mods that still haven't been updated to 0.18 in my 0.18 mods folder. They aren't active, but if an update is released, I will be notified. Meanwhile, I've unpacked these mods and made the changes necessary to run them in the folder version (in most cases, just a change to info.json was needed).

Anyway, perhaps I've read something into your post that you didn't mean -- in this case I apologize. But it seemed like you were demanding something you were entitled to ("the full update promised"), although a solution to the problem was already presented to you on a silver platter. Sure, it's easier to just hit the upgrade-button, but if somebody makes an effort to help, the least thing the other party could do is to try to follow the instructions and get it to work by themselves.

Hi guys, im very sorry for the long time it took, but the 0.18 update is now available.
Thank you for your patience :)

Thanks for updating! Haven't tested yet (update was released while I was sleeping), but from the changelog, it looks like a major overhaul! With PDA available now much earlier than before definitely sounds nice. :-)

Thanks for the update I was hoping for at least quick fix update. However it looks like you got the mod overhaul done.

Shame the new updates are not compatible with 0.17 :( I love them but if I update to 0.18 most of the mods I use are not ready for 0.18 experimental yet
