Hello,
I posted this suggestion in the main K2SO page again but thought I would run it by you and see what you think too since you're so responsive!
I was taking a look at the Coke Liquefaction recipe, and I have a suggestion that I think will make it more useable: I think it should not require wood or wood should be made somehow craftable on Vulcanus. The recipe has the potential to be useful and interesting due to its high light oil yield and very low heavy oil yield, making it significantly different from coal liquefaction. However, there's almost no scenario where it makes sense to use currently:
On Nauvis it doesn't make a lot of sense to rout coal in for coke and a significant amount of steam and create a dedicated wood setup for a somewhat more favorable oil cracking ratio. The logistics are significant for an insignificant reward but, more importantly, the level of pollution doesn't make sense. On Fulgora wood no longer exists now that green circuits don't recycle into it anymore (which I believe was a very good change) but even if it did it wouldn't make any sense to use coal filtration to get coal from heavy oil just to create coke to get oil products again when heavy oil is free and pollution is not a factor. There is an argument that the technology could be useful on Gleba since wood and carbon are easily available and oil products are not but Gleba's was designed not to rely on oil recipes with more efficient methods of crafting plastic and sulfur and an alternative recipe for lube. Late game Gleba has tremendous legendary mall potential due to the wonderful Gleba Greenhouse technology and could benefit from oil products, but by this point you will either have or be extremely close to having matter conversion research unlocked, making oil products easy to obtain by alternative means.
It seems like Coke Liquefactions is meant for Vulcanus. Coal Liquefactions is unlocked on Vulcanus, steam is essentially free from sulfuric acid, and Vulcanus' dependence on cracking heavy oil from Coal Liquefaction means it would be useful. However, consuming twice as much coal to craft the carbon required would still leave it fairly balanced. The problem, of course, is that it's not possible to automate wood on Vulcanus.
I think what makes the most sense would be to create an alternative Coke Liquefaction recipe that requires calcite instead of wood. This more fully integrates it into Vulcanus, the Simple Coal Liquefaction recipe also requires calcite which makes it consistent, and it has at least some degree of realism: real-world coking utilizes limestone as a significant component which is composed primarily of calcite.
Thanks!
