The Air Purification can be researched without its required components being researched.

For instance, you can gain the capability to research Air Purificiation without first getting the Electrolysis Plant (required for Gold mining).

You can also research Air Purificiation without first getting Electrical Engines (requiring Lubricant, requiring Advanced Oil Production). This makes it incredibly frustrating trying to progress through the tech tree, realising you've built something that won't work because you need more science.
