I started a new game with your mod which looks really appealing and I noticed something, there are two kind of steel, one is vanilla recipe and the second is the modded one. Is this intended ?

Vanilla steel converted to "iron beams". Vanilla technology is also changed. Creating new steel requires "steel components". This is more realistic since in real life steel is an alloy of a large number of components.
