Do not confuse this mod with the much more popular mod named Module Inserter. Although the names are similar, these mods are completely different.

Short Description

This mod creates a new type of module, called the inserter module, that can only be used in assembling machines and only if they are crafting inserters.

Medium-Length Description

Inserter modules increase machine productivity at the cost of increased energy consumption. Crafting speed is not affected. Pollution output is increased drastically by the lower tiers of module, but the highest tier of inserter module does not impact pollution directly.
By default, the inserter module only works with the seven types of inserter in the base game. However, there is an option in the mod settings that should make the mod auto-detect all types of inserters.

IMPORTANT

This should be compatible with multiplayer, but it has not been tested.

Can I add this to an existing save?

Yes, it should work fine with no problems.
