I tried using it with FTL ships and found that it made a surface but prevented me from actually piloting it. When I enter I go into a surface but the car just dumps me back on the ground instead of putting me in the pilot seat.

I fixed the problem, just update your mod

Are you sure the update posted? I'm running 2.0.11 and the issue persists on vanilla. The mod page says the last update was a day before I posted this. I made sure to uninstall and reinstall too. I noticed the moon buggy from the Muluna mod works (I haven't tested it before) but the stealth cruiser from FTL ships (https://mods.factorio.com/mod/FTL-Ships) still suffers the same issue. I try to enter and it just dumps me back outside.

This isn't the end of the world though. I'm probably a ways away from actually building those ships
