To me it seems that Shift Right Click only works by pointing on the remote (in the inventory or quick bar). With this mod I can take my Connected Spidertron Remote with the shortcut and hit another button to disconnect it before selecting a new spider.
It is super handy to select the correct spider while being attacked. I don't have to move the cursor back to the tool belt.
