Deep Mining Rebalanced

Mine deeper. Build bigger. Power your industry.

Deep Mining Rebalanced transforms resource extraction into a powerful, scalable industrial system.

Forget constantly relocating mining drills or depending entirely on natural ore deposits. Build dedicated deep-mining facilities wherever your factory needs them, extract resources directly from the depths of the planet, and expand your production without conventional mining patches.

But this is not a free infinite-resource generator.

Deep Mining Rebalanced is designed around meaningful electricity costs, technological progression, planetary restrictions, and carefully balanced industrial efficiency.

Your resources may be effectively unlimited — but your ability to extract them depends on your infrastructure.

Factorio 2.1 | Space Age optional | Fully configurable | English & Russian

Key Features

1. Two tiers of deep-mining technology

Deep Mining Rebalanced introduces two dedicated extraction machines, each with a distinct role in factory progression.

Deep Mine — Tier I

Your entry point into deep extraction.

  • Extracts resources without physical deposits.
  • Relatively accessible through mid-game technology.
  • Low individual production capacity.
  • No module slots.
  • No beacon effects.
  • Requires considerable infrastructure to scale.

A single basic mine cannot supply an entire production line. Building a substantial mining operation requires dozens of machines, electricity, logistics, and space.

Industrial Deep Mine — Tier II

A major technological upgrade designed for industrial-scale production.

  • 10 times the base production rate of Tier I.
  • 20% better energy efficiency per resource before bonuses.
  • Two configurable module slots.
  • Supports beacon effects.
  • Requires more advanced technology and construction materials.
  • Designed for large factories and megabases.

The industrial extractor is not merely a more compact version of the basic one: it is a genuine upgrade in performance, efficiency, and customization.

2. Meaningful industrial-scale production

The default Balanced profile is designed around clear production milestones.

For ordinary ores, without modules, quality bonuses, beacons, or research productivity:

Production target Tier I mines Tier II mines
15 items/second 60 6
30 items/second 120 12
45 items/second 180 18
60 items/second 240 24

Want to fill a basic transport belt? Build a mining operation.

Want to supply a high-throughput factory? Invest in industrial deep mining.

This progression creates a meaningful reason to upgrade instead of simply producing more basic machines forever.

3. Two balance profiles

Choose the industrial challenge that suits your factory.

Parameter Balanced Expensive
Tier I power 1.5 MW 3.75 MW
Tier II power 12 MW 30 MW
Tier I energy per common ore 6 MJ 15 MJ
Tier II energy per common ore 4.8 MJ 12 MJ
Construction cost multiplier 1× 2×
Research cost multiplier 1× 2×
Steel maintenance Off by default On by default

Balanced provides a demanding but practical alternative to conventional mining.

Expensive is designed for players who want deep mining to require major electricity generation and expensive industrial infrastructure.

Both profiles can be customized through startup settings.

4. Smart planetary resource restrictions

Each planet has its own natural resources. Deep mining respects that.

With Space Age enabled, the default Native Resources Only mode restricts deep-extraction recipes to planets where the corresponding resources naturally occur.

Examples:

  • Nauvis: iron, copper, coal, stone, uranium, crude oil.
  • Vulcanus: coal, calcite, tungsten, sulfuric acid.
  • Fulgora: scrap.
  • Gleba: naturally available minerals.
  • Aquilo: fluorine, lithium brine, crude oil.

The mod automatically selects appropriate restrictions using Factorio's existing planetary properties:

  • Atmospheric pressure.
  • Gravity.
  • Magnetic field.
  • Solar power.

If these properties cannot accurately distinguish planets, the mod applies a hidden fallback condition.

This keeps planetary restrictions precise without filling planet information panels with unnecessary custom statistics.

Planet restrictions can also be disabled entirely.

Space Age is optional. Without it, deep mining works normally without planetary limitations.

5. Modules as a real technological upgrade

Modules are exclusive to the industrial extractor.

Tier I mines have no module slots and do not benefit from beacons, ensuring that basic deep extraction remains a straightforward industrial system.

Tier II mines offer two module slots, supporting three independently configurable module categories:

  • Speed modules — increase extraction throughput.
  • Efficiency modules — reduce electricity consumption.
  • Productivity modules — improve resource output.

All three categories are enabled by default and can be controlled separately in startup settings.

Two slots encourage meaningful trade-offs instead of making every extractor universally optimal.

Quality modules are intentionally excluded. Deep mining cannot generate higher-quality raw resources directly from electricity.

However, higher-quality versions of the extraction machines themselves remain supported, rewarding investment in Quality technology without undermining resource progression.

6. Mining Productivity research integration

Your mining research should not become obsolete when you switch to deep extraction.

Deep Mining Rebalanced can transfer bonuses from vanilla Mining Productivity technologies to deep-extraction recipes.

This includes repeatable research levels.

You can configure:

  • Whether research productivity applies.
  • The strength of research bonuses.
  • Maximum recipe productivity.
  • Productivity module permissions independently from research bonuses.

Advanced technology can significantly improve deep-mining performance, rewarding players who invest in research, modules, and high-quality industrial infrastructure.

7. Different extraction costs for different resources

Not all resources are equally easy to extract.

Deep Mining Rebalanced uses separate extraction difficulty multipliers for valuable materials, rare ores, and fluids.

For example, tungsten, uranium, lithium brine, and other specialized resources may require substantially more processing time and electricity than iron or copper.

Individual resources can receive custom difficulty multipliers.

Production batch sizes are configurable, with processing time scaling proportionally to prevent free efficiency gains from larger batches.

8. Optional industrial maintenance

For a more demanding gameplay experience, deep extraction can require steel plates as operating supplies.

Maintenance adds an additional logistical challenge, especially for large mining installations.

Configure or disable maintenance to fit your preferred level of difficulty.

9. Extensive customization

Fine-tune nearly every important aspect of deep mining:

  • Extractor electricity consumption.
  • Production speeds.
  • Pollution.
  • Extraction recipe difficulty.
  • Rare-resource and fluid extraction multipliers.
  • Individual resource cost overrides.
  • Research and construction costs.
  • Resource batch sizes.
  • Steel maintenance.
  • Mining Productivity research integration.
  • Maximum productivity bonuses.
  • Speed, efficiency, and productivity module permissions.
  • Planetary restrictions.
  • Resource exclusions.
  • Additional native-resource mappings for modded planets.
  • Heating requirements on cold planets.

Whether you prefer accessible deep mining or an expensive industrial challenge, the mod adapts to your gameplay style.

10. Performance-friendly architecture

Deep Mining Rebalanced uses native Factorio recipes, machines, technologies, and surface conditions.

  • No per-tick control scripts.
  • No continuous resource-patch scanning.
  • No background entity tracking.
  • No runtime Lua calculations for extraction.

Extraction recipes and restrictions are generated when mods load.

This avoids additional per-tick Lua processing, making the mod suitable for large industrial bases and megabase-oriented gameplay.

11. Mod compatibility

The mod automatically discovers compatible minable resource prototypes from other installed mods.

It can generate extraction recipes for additional solid and fluid resources, with manual configuration available for unusual resources or modded planets.

Requirements and compatibility:

  • Factorio 2.1.
  • Space Age optional.
  • English and Russian localization.
  • Compatible resource mods supported through automatic detection and configuration.
  • Original DeepMine and DeepMine2 are marked incompatible to prevent conflicts.

Who is this mod for?

Deep Mining Rebalanced is ideal for players who:

  • Want reliable resource production without constantly relocating drills.
  • Enjoy large industrial complexes and heavy electrical infrastructure.
  • Prefer meaningful progression between machinery tiers.
  • Want Space Age planets to retain their unique resource identities.
  • Like experimenting with module setups and productivity.
  • Build megabases and care about performance.
  • Want a configurable alternative to conventional mining without making resources completely free.

Resources are abundant. Infrastructure is the challenge.

Build the power grid. Research better extraction technology. Optimize your industrial mines. Expand your factory.

Deep Mining Rebalanced —

Deep Mining Rebalanced —

  • Factorio 2.1.
  • Space Age
