As I know in Factorio, no LuaGuiElement support animations, only sprites.
In fact a SpritePath(used by LuaGuiElement) can only use a Sprite Prototype that have no way to define frame_count and line_count to create an Animation.
With the latest update, there might actually be "simulation" elements you can add, like the ones in the tutorials. Probably more work than it's worth in any case.
