Abandoned Ruins - Combined

Abandoned Ruins - Combined is a content expansion for Abandoned Ruins - Updated that brings the major community ruin packs together into one unified, compatibility-focused set for Factorio 2.0.

Instead of choosing between the Base, Krastorio 2, and Silly ruin packs, Combined merges their content into a single ruin pool while keeping the Abandoned Ruins core separate and untouched.

Included Ruins

The mod currently combines:

150 Base ruins
7 Krastorio 2 ruins
31 generic Silly ruins
30 optional Silly ruins for supported additional mods

With all supported content mods installed, the combined pool can contain up to:

218 different ruins

Krastorio 2 and other optional ruins are only added when their corresponding mods are actually installed.

Why Combined?

The goal is not simply to copy several old ruin packs into one archive.

These ruins were created across different Factorio versions and different generations of their respective mods. Some definitions therefore still reference entities, items, equipment, fluids, tiles, or mechanics that have since changed.

Combined provides a dedicated compatibility layer for:

supported optional content mods

Where necessary, outdated references are translated to their current equivalents at runtime.

At the same time, Vanilla prototypes are deliberately not replaced simply because K2 or SE modify them. If an entity or item still exists under its original name, the ruin uses the final prototype produced by the currently active mod setup.

This allows the ruins to naturally inherit changes made by K2, SE, or other compatible mods.

Preserving the Original Ruins

The original ruin definitions are kept as close to their source versions as possible.

Compatibility adjustments are handled separately instead of rewriting the source designs wherever possible.

This has two advantages:

The original layout and character of each ruin remain intact.
Compatibility changes can be reviewed and maintained independently from the actual ruin designs.
Compatibility Auditing

Combined performs additional checks when the ruin pool is registered.

The internal audit checks references such as:

entities
items and loot
recipes
fluids
tiles
dynamically selected entities
machine and recipe compatibility

This helps identify obsolete or incompatible references instead of allowing parts of a ruin to disappear silently during world generation.

Optional Content

Additional ruin groups are enabled automatically when their corresponding mods are installed.

Supported optional content currently includes ruins for:

Krastorio 2
Angel's Refining
Angel's Petro Chemical Processing
Angel's Smelting
RPGSystem
Robot Army
Aircraft

Combined does not require these mods.

If they are not installed, their respective ruins are simply excluded from the active ruin pool.

Abandoned Ruins - Updated

The core mod remains responsible for world generation, ruin spawning, claiming, settings, and the general Abandoned Ruins framework.

Combined only supplies the unified ruin content.

Important

The original content packs should not be installed alongside Combined:

Abandoned Ruins - Base
Abandoned Ruins - Krastorio 2
Silly Abandoned Ruins

Their ruin content is already included in this mod.

Installing them together would result in multiple overlapping ruin sets and is therefore intentionally prevented through mod dependencies.

Credits

Abandoned Ruins - Combined builds on the work of the original Abandoned Ruins project and its community-maintained forks and expansion packs.

The included ruin designs remain credited to their respective original authors.

Combined focuses on bringing those works together into a maintainable Factorio 2.0 content package while preserving the original designs wherever possible.
