Where dat is!?
Named after how my son asked where things were when he was three. One button puts a map tag on everything worth finding: every resource patch, every enemy base, every wild fruit grove, and the nearest lakes. No more scrolling around the map looking for oil.
What it does
- Resource patches. A tag in the middle of each patch, with the resource's icon and how much is in it ("2.21M"). Oil fields and other fluid resources show their total yield ("500%"). Works with any mod's resources.
- Enemy nests. A tag in the middle of each cluster of nests: "4 nests, 3 worms".
- Wild fruit trees (Space Age). A tag in the middle of each grove of yumako or jellynut trees on Gleba, with how many trees it has. Trees on your own farms are left out.
- Water. A tag on the shore of the lakes nearest you, at the point closest to you. How many lakes is a per-player setting (default 4).
- Even in the black. Everything the game has already generated is marked, including the area just past what you've explored. Nothing new is generated and nothing is revealed: you just get tags.
How to use it
Open the window with the Where dat is!? shortcut button. Check what you want marked (or use Check all / Uncheck all) and press Mark the map. Shift+H does the same without opening the window.
Marking again replaces the tags the mod put down before on that planet, so the amounts stay current. A tag you've edited yourself becomes yours and is left alone. "Remove marks" takes the mod's tags off the planet.
Find the nearest of each checked resource
Desperate for oil? This button keeps generating new map around you, in a growing circle, until it has found one of each checked resource, then marks the map. It only looks for what that planet's map actually has, so it won't hunt for iron on Vulcanus. It stops at a per-player limit, "Farthest to search" (default 1000 tiles), found or not.
It asks first, because generating map has real costs:
- Generated map stays in your save for good, so the save grows.
- New map comes with its enemy nests. They can send out parties to build new nests, some of them nearer to you.
- Pollution only spreads into generated map, so your pollution can now reach nests it couldn't before, and those nests will attack.
- The game may slow down while it searches.
Press the button again while it runs to stop it.
Good to know
- Marking reads the map a little at a time, so even a big map doesn't freeze the game. A few thousand chunks take a few seconds.
- Map tags belong to your whole team, so in multiplayer another player's mark replaces yours on that planet.
- Tag text is in English.
- Works with or without Space Age.
- Adds nothing to the game itself. Removing it leaves its tags on the map; delete them with "Remove marks" first if you don't want them.
