They should be found around the sulfur vents on Vulcanus. You also cannot cultivate them with agricultural towers, there are recipes that let you cultivate them more similarly to how you produce bacteria on Gleba

ahhh, yeah you'll have to venture to a new non-generated section of the map to find them, or spawn them in with the editor (which would disable achievements but be easier if you've explored a far way out)
