Adds Noise pollution to Vulcanus.
Noise is a new type of surface pollution emitted by mining drills, offshore pumps, items destroyed in lava, and Thumpers. When enough Noise reaches a patrolling demolisher, it can leave its territory and charge toward the loudest nearby chunk containing a Noise source.
Noise is calibrated around a standard source, which should provoke a small demolisher from about three chunks away on natural Vulcanus terrain. With default settings, the following are equivalent to one standard source:
- one full-power, unmodified big mining drill;
- 30 items/s destroyed in lava; or
- 1,200 fluid/s through one offshore pump.
Thumper
The Thumper is a compact, self-powered decoy that runs continuously. At normal quality, it produces as much Noise as ten standard sources. Higher quality is louder.
If the loudest nearby chunk contains a Thumper it can attack, the demolisher chooses the Thumper over another Noise source there.
Thumper technology unlocks for your team the first time Noise successfully provokes a demolisher.
Settings and compatibility
Separate startup settings tune or disable Noise from mining drills, lava disposal, and offshore pumps. A runtime setting controls demolisher sensitivity—how far demolishers can hear Noise.
Requires Factorio 2.0.77 and Space Age. Most conventional modded mining drills and offshore pumps follow their existing pollution and pumping values. Modded demolishers are recognized automatically, and their hearing scales with maximum health.
