Driving is too forgiving.
I don't like flying around my base at 100 mph (I have a speedometer mod too) and then plowing headfirst into the wall only to take like... a quarter of my healthbar in damage.
Nah, man.
Now? Now if you wreck at top speed, your car is done. I've tuned the multiplier so that when you're driving at full speed on dirt and crash into a rock or something, you take a load of damage but don't quite blow up, but when you're on concrete then full speed is actually dangerous. This is a compromise in order to make exploring around on dirt not annoying because of this mod.
BUT if you're a masochist, the multiplier is exposed in the startup settings, and you can set it anywhere from 1 (linear scaling like vanilla) up to 10 (a tiny bump obliterates you). But if you want rocks in dirt to be challenging without being too crazy, I would recommend 1.5 or maybe up to like 2.0 tops. Anything beyond that starts getting a little ridiculous.
Technical details
Basically it reads the damage the game engine would have done, multiplies it by the exponent set in settings, then does that much damage instead. (Or it might be adding to the engine's damage, I'm not really sure and it's a tiny quick mod so I didn't bother finding out. Either way, it functions).
