as far as i can tell you can only get into oil processing by using a duplication recipe, one of which need you to have already gotten past the oil processing research, and the other needing you to grind for a bunch of crude oil barrels using the bootstrap recipe which is not fun or practical

I was able to unlock the Oil processing research thanks to the crude oil duplication recipe, so the trigger technology does work. The crude oil duplication recipe also does not require crude oil as an input to duplicate, so this recipe is just a fancy pumpjack with an oil well in it.

No need to gamble for oil barrels to bootstrap oil production.

This also makes the Crude oil boiler useless.
