once upon a time, there was no mod portal and every mod had some thread in the forums.
then came the mod portal and most mod authors added such a forum thread as "homepage" so that people still could post descriptions, suggestions, bugs, etc (even with pictures, screenshots, clever uses, etc).
nowadays, most new mod authors seem to have no homepage of their own and also use no thread on the forums. many are giving the mod portal page for a mod as homepage on that mod portal page which is pretty much useless. giving all different kinds of bugtrackers, githubs, etc as homepage (where people would first need to register) isn't too much of a help either and there would still be no easy notification function for the users, and no discussion either.
and because of missing notifications on this discussion tab of the mod portal it is difficult for authors to notice questions, for users to see answers, etc
