Smooth Ore Patches

Vanilla Factorio ore patches are generated with a bit of high-frequency noise, resulting in jagged or patchy ore patches. This mod tones that down, giving you rounder, more compact patches that are easier to plan around and surround with miners.

Size and richness are completely unchanged, you will get the same amount of ore, just in a tidier shape. All map generation sliders continue to work normally.

Affected ores

Iron, copper, coal, stone, and uranium. Crude oil is intentionally excluded as it generates as individual point wells rather than area patches.

Mod settings

All settings are under Settings → Mod Settings → Startup and must be set before starting a new game.

Setting Default Vanilla Description
Blob amplitude 0.07 0.125 Lower = rounder. 0 = perfect circles.
Spot size minimum 0.45 0.25 Prevents tiny stretched patches
Spot size maximum 2.0 2.0 Prevents oversized irregular blobs

You can also push values toward vanilla or beyond if you prefer more chaotic generation than default.

Compatibility

Compatible with any mod that doesn't also overwrite the default-[ore]-patches noise expressions. Does not affect modded ores, only vanilla resources.
