g [Base Game Issue] Text Collision between Close Sun Orbit and Muluna

(updated 20 hours ago)

With all my mods I now get an unpleasant collision between the text
"Close Sun Orbit" from Dyson Sphere and the actual graphics of the moon Muluna.

FYI, I also have Lignumis. This probably affects positioning.

I use CSD which messes with distances. I think they increased their default minimum distance recently.

Hm, that's unusual, which planet are you starting on? (assuming you are using Any Planet Start, because sun orbit is pretty far from Nauvis and shouldn't overlap Muluna in any way, under default settings)

As for the recent minimum distance change by Cosmic Social Distancing, that probably shouldn't affect anything, because sun orbit is made immune to CSD changes, as well as the default minimum distance when using this mod already being set to a much higher value.

Not using Any Planet start. I started on Lignumis.
Seems the 200% UI scale messes with the text on the star map -_-

I'm just realizing I get a similar collision between Shattered Planet and Lost Beyond. But only at 200% UI scale.
Why exactly do the names of the planets in the star map need to scale with UI scale >:(

I started on Lignumis

With Any Planet Start, the moons of Lignumis and Muluna actually both move to orbit the planet you choose as a starting location, hence why I asked about the starting planet, in case you chose Vulcanus or a modded planet. (this does expose some minor issues.. like the position of Moshine being pushed towards the sun, might have to make Moshine immune to CSD so that doesn't happen in any scenario)

But I guess the problem is just the UI scaling then? On 1440p monitor, I have it set to 125%, and while the text for each label appears close (with the default nauvis start), there's definitely no overlap.

Sounds like something to report to the Factorio devs, can't really account for every user setting, and 200% does seem particularly.. high

I have a 4K screen, and technically my UI scale is set to "auto" which just defaults to 200% at 4K.

Anyhow, I also use Asteroid Belt and both Lignumis and Muluna orbit Nauvis for me. Hence the collision.

At 100% UI scale I see this

Yup, that was about the same as my experience, at 125% scaling, even without Asteroid Belt.

CSD does appear to be pushing nauvis a bit closer to the sun, I think this would be caused by the Senestella Stargate (or Shchierbin?) being too close. Maybe I should make nauvis itself immune to CSD (that should just move everything else around it instead, which might cause less issues?)

This cannot fix everything. As I said, I realized also Shattered Planet mod locations are colliding at 200%

It is very frustrating that the planet names scale with UI scale. They really shouldn't.

This cannot fix everything

Sorry, I've been focusing on one thing at a time, starting with the things that I can fix my side.

Even though the underlying issue is with UI scaling, the Shattered Planet thing should be easily fixable by simply changing the label_orientation to something else. The default value of 0.25 is up and to the right, which is exactly in the direction of the next location, so simply rotating that around to 0.75 or something that is below and to the left instead, should keep it out of the way in all cases.

Guaranteed fixable by modders now > Potentially fixable by game devs later, imo.

And even if/when they do decide to fix the scaling issue, that doesn't make these changes any less useful

thanks for putting up with all my silly complaints about other people's mods btw
