Reasonable Rocket Minimum Weight

A small compatibility/balance mod for Factorio 2.0 / Space Age that makes unweighted or awkwardly weighted modded items behave more reasonably in rocket logistics.

This mod is mainly intended for players using mods that add new materials, fluids, barrels, intermediates, or late-game items where Factorio’s automatic item weight calculation can produce unexpectedly large rocket cargo limits.

What it does

  • Raises the fallback item weight from Factorio’s very light default to a more practical minimum (Values & settings editable in data-final-fixes.lua).
  • Prevents unweighted modded items from being launched in silly quantities.
  • Makes generated full barrels behave more like vanilla full barrels.
  • Keeps compatibility with “rocket can carry everything” style mods by still capping very heavy items at one rocket load.
  • Avoids manually patching every single modded item one by one.

Why?

In Space Age, rocket capacity is based on item weight. Most vanilla items have sensible calculated or defined weights, but some modded items can fall back to the default item weight and end up with extremely high rocket capacity.

For example, a new modded “tungsten barrel” or similar generated item may be allowed into the rocket in thousands of units unless its weight is corrected.

This mod provides a simple safety net so new modded items are usually treated as light-but-not-weightless cargo.

Balance approach

The default fallback is set to a light intermediate-style value rather than a heavy ore-style value. This means unknown modded items are still convenient to ship, but not effectively weightless.

Typical intended feel:

  • Very light items: still ship in large quantities.
  • Generic unknown modded items: around light intermediate capacity.
  • Full barrels: close to vanilla full barrel capacity.
  • Extremely heavy items: still launchable, but limited to one per rocket.
