Can you add a checkbox near the color selection to make only that trains have the rainbow effects?
I want to have trains colored based on what they carry, and I have one train for all science so the rainbow effect is perfect but I just want it in one train.
If you could add that would be awesome.

If adding a button is hard or something maybe is possible and easier to make it rainbow if the color of the train is 1,1,1 or any other arbitrary number.

I think that should be possible. Are you using the automatic train painter mod as well?

Probably the easiest way for me to implement this idea would be to check if the train has the "Manual Color Module" from Automatic Train Painter, and then only add the rainbow effect to those trains.

I don't use it but if I have to download it to get the rainbow effect on some train I am ok with it.

This mod changes the color of locomotives to an animated rainbow.
Train trails makes big glowing trails of color on the ground wherever they go.

I know this thread is over 1 year old at this point, but was a way for some trains to be exempt ever added? Be it by checkbox or some other method.

my preferred method is checkbox, maybe with setting in mod menu to have default for new trains be checked vs unchecked?

I never ended up implementing it, as everything I was coming up with at the time felt weird and clunky. But I will take another look, I think at this point I can probably make a little GUI checkbox when you open a train. At the very least I can implement a command to toggle the rainbow behavior for the selected train.
