Inspired by Radar unlocks map.

Ever tried living without GPS?

No blue dot. No perfect remote view. Just you, the terrain, and your questionable sense of direction.

Spotted a rich copper patch far from your base? Better remember the landmarks—once you leave radar coverage, finding it again may not be so easy.

Pro tip: radiation glows at night. Drop some on your way out and follow the light back home.

What this mod does

  • Full map access depends on radar or roboport coverage.
  • Stay within range of a powered radar or roboport to fully use remote view. Outside coverage, remote view still works, but most of the map is hidden. Only the local area around your character remains visible.
  • Alerts for damaged or destroyed entities are shown only when both you and the attacked entity are inside radar or roboport coverage. If either one is disconnected, you receive no combat alert. When an outpost's radar loses power, you also will stop receiving alerts from the outpost.

How it works

  • Before Radar research: remote view is unavailable
  • Inside radar or roboport coverage: full remote-view access, including other surfaces
  • Outside coverage: remote view remains available, but only the local area around your character is visible
  • Viewing another surface while disconnected: the map is hidden behind NO SIGNAL
  • Combat alerts: both the receiving player and the attacked entity must be inside coverage
  • On a space platform: you are considered connected

Only powered, unfrozen radars and roboports belonging to your force provide coverage.

Connection sounds

Optional per-player voice notifications announce when you enter or leave coverage:

  • Radar online when a connection is established
  • Radar offline when the connection is lost

The sounds are from Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun and can be disabled individually by each player.

Why it matters

  • New planets start disconnected. Establish radar or roboport coverage before treating them like another remotely managed part of your factory.
  • Navigation becomes part of exploration. Landmarks, roads, railways, lights, and anything else you can recognize suddenly become useful.
  • You can actually get lost. With the minimap and player marker disabled, leaving covered areas means you may have to find your own way back.
  • Remote combat awareness requires a complete signal path. It is not enough for an outpost to be covered—the player receiving its combat alerts must also be connected.
  • Exploration requires a bit more planning. Going far from your base without extending coverage means giving up the convenience of the global map until you return.

Optional restrictions

Map settings can control:

  • remote view
  • minimap visibility
  • player marker visibility
  • pins and tags
  • map pings
  • alerts
  • alert sounds

Enable only the restrictions you want.
