Makes plastic bars a burnable chemical fuel. With Space Age, adds Plastic pyrolysis (plastic -> carbon) for coal synthesis. Continuation of Plastic Burns by Frontrider, updated for Factorio 2.1.
Mods introducing new content into the game.
Version: 1.1.0
Date: 2026-11-05
Changes:
- Plastic can no longer be used as vehicle fuel (cars, tanks, locomotives, spidertrons). It has its own "Plastic" fuel category, which every other chemical burner accepts: boilers, furnaces, burner drills and inserters, and burners from other mods.
- Removed the vehicle acceleration, top speed and quality bonus settings, which no longer do anything.
- Plastic bars now have a tooltip saying they can't fuel vehicles.
Version: 1.0.0
Date: 2026-10-31
Info:
- Plastic Burns (Reborn): continuation of Plastic Burns by Frontrider (MIT), maintained by FallenPaladin.
- Updated for Factorio 2.1.
Bugfixes:
- Fixed loading on Factorio 2.1: fuel_category was replaced by fuel_categories.
- Fixed quality bonuses making plastic the best vehicle fuel in the game (legendary plastic gave 6x acceleration and 7.8x top speed, ahead of nuclear fuel). Now +0.1 acceleration and +0.05 top speed per quality level.
- Fixed a global variable leaking into the shared data stage.
- No longer errors if another mod removes or replaces plastic bars.
- Keeps fuel categories other mods already gave plastic instead of overwriting them.
Features:
- Added Plastic pyrolysis (2 plastic → 1 carbon, chemical plant or cryogenic plant) when a carbon item exists, unlocked with coal synthesis. Requested by mooklepticon on the original mod's discussion page.
- Added startup settings for fuel value, vehicle multipliers, quality bonuses, pollution and the pyrolysis recipe.
Changes:
- Moved from data-final-fixes to data-updates so other mods can adjust plastic afterwards.
- Marked incompatible with the original Plastic Burns.
