Was playing with the mining patch planner, seeing how I could arrange mining drills on a narrow stretch of land between lava on Vulcanus: the green drag-square appeared but nothing happened when I released. Now the green box remains in place and I can't use the mining patch planner anywhere else.

Reloaded the game, green box is still there.

Disabled the mod, the green box disappears, enabled the mod again and the green box re-appears. And still can't use the planner elsewhere.

Anything I can do on my end to clear the selection box?

Green box means a that a planning job managed to get into an infinite loop. It tries to place mining drills and can't find any free spot due to no water (lava) restriction. Thank you for the save, I'll implement a fallback to give up.

On your end, I think you can load the save with Mining Patch Planner disabled, and save it. It should clear the mod data and you can then enable it again.
