This small configurable vanilla friendly mod adds a brand new ore to the game, Morphite!

Have you ever felt like the game was lacking resources, but you didn't want crank up the map gen settings to get them? Have you ever ran out of a resource, and you wanted a secondary way to work for it while not adding too much complexity? Do you love hoarding resources? Morphite is for you!


Morphite is a middle to middle-late game, lower priority, supplemental ore that can be processed into the other raw resources. Most of the processing techniques can be done in hand or assembler with no research required. Processing into the other basic ores is straight forward, 1 Morphite for 1 ore of your choosing! Mining time and hardness is the same as mining iron. The catch is Morphite is useless on its own, and needs to be processed into something useful.

Notes of interest:

When ores are placed on the map, Morphite is over written with other ores. No need to worry that this will take away your iron.
Another way to play vanilla with Morphite is to lower/disable the regular raw resources on the map (besides water). It is still possible to launch a rocket, and adds a new challenge!


For convenience I have supplied a few mod settings to configure the mod how you want to. You can:
Enable/Disable Morphite ore patch placement. - This is useful if you have want to have Morphite in the game, but you don't want ore patch entities. This option is mostly for other mods that may use Morphite as a resultant in a recipe possibly. It leaves the door open as disabling the mod entirely will remove Morphite items(Morphite that exists in chests and inventory) from the game.
Enable/Disable Morphite to X Recipes/Technology. - You can choose which kind of ore processing is enabled in game. If you just want a way to just get more iron, you can disable all the other recipes. This keeps your recipe menu nice and tidy if you never want to turn Morphite into coal for example.

I created this mod because I was out exploring my map, and not finding very many resource patches. I liberated a lot of space from the biters, but I didn't really earn much for it. I wanted more ore patches to mine, even if they weren't as ideal as getting a new iron patch. I like the idea of "bad" ores where they aren't as good as iron or copper, but they can still be made useful if you put in the extra work. I also remembered back to when I didn't claim all of this space, and how tough it was when I ran out of iron each time. Morphite to me helps alleviate these problems while not making it too easy. If I run out of iron, maybe I can survive on Morphite for a while until I can get my next patch secured. Plus, you can hoard the ore, and if crisis strikes you can switch on Morphite processing to what you need to stay afloat. This also just makes the map more resource dense, even if you are using the default settings. A lot of the fun I get from factorio is securing resources, and just having more patches out there yields more excitement when I go exploring.
