🌐 Enable Planet Mods Lite

by Kryzeth

A more streamlined, Lite version of the Enable All Planet Mods, removing several planet mods which either warped the early game too much, or simply did not add enough unique content for the mid to late game. A more playability-focused planet pack. 🌐

i [Feedback] Shattered Planet should be optional

Since CPU_Blackheart's Shattered Planet alters vanilla space locations and seems to be trying to replace the vanilla endgame it should be optional. Both because altering vanilla locations is more likely going to make it incompatible with other mods (Nexus, Shattered Foundations, etc...) that touch the shattered planet and beyond, as well as the fact it alters vanilla progression similar to Lignumis and Muluna, just at the end of the game instead of early, and should be optional for similar reasons.

Thank you for your time.

Hm, could you be more specific as to what vanilla locations it modifies? I was under the impression that it only modified the original Shattered Planet space location?

Since it only modifies endgame content, it's not exactly on the same level as Lignumis or Muluna, which both drastically change the way the game is played, before even having the opportunity to visit other space locations. A modification to the endgame feels right in line with the rest of the planets in the pack, especially considering the.. relative lack of content that was originally there.

I'll take it under consideration though, if the mod changes more than just the endgame space locations, then I'll make it optional.

Sorry for the long reply time, I've been busy and wanted to think about your question.

Since the CB_Shattered Planet mod modifies the Shattered Planet space location that would make it incompatible with other mods that also modify the Shattered Planet location, or other parts around the solar system edge (Nexus, Shattered Foundations, potentially more in the future.) By having CB_Shattered Planet be a required mod it prevents people from using All planets lite, and the included compatibility patch, alongside Nexus or Shattered Foundations. (or other future mods that use the Shattered Planet location)

Having thought about it though, I think the root of the problem is that the compatibility patch is tied to this mod. If someone wants to use Lignumis alongside Muluna/Astroponics/Cerys the only way to use the compatibility patch is to also commit to every other planet in the mod. I guess it's not that big a deal anymore since the compatibility patch now just shuffles around some of the required techs based on Lignumis's progressive recipe settings, and the Cubium compatibility patch isn't necessary any more.

Philosophically I do still think that mods that touch vanilla locations/progression shouldn't be part of the "lite" mod since it is more likely to conflict with other mods and forces fundamental changes on the player, but I don't think that's the problem and I'm also not the one putting in the effort to maintain this list and the compatibility patch.

I do appreciate the work you put in, not just to maintain this list but also working on making sure the mods in it are compatible with each-other. I guess the short version is, would it be too much trouble to separate the Lignumis/Astroponics(Lunaponics/Muluna/Cerys) compatibility patch into a separate mod?

Thank you for your time, and again thank you for maintaining this planet list and adding compatibility patches.

A very thoughtful response, thanks for the feedback! I had actually been looking at the Nexus mod as a potential inclusion, but shelved it since it was still WIP. Knowing that the two mods may have a potential conflict is definitely a good reason to make Shattered Planet optional (and maybe hope for a compatibility patch, unlikely as it may be). Maybe even considering making it optional in the main All Planets pack, since there's no specific reason to prefer one endgame mod over the other, for testing.

Luckily for the compatibility concerns, the individual planet mod authors have taken it upon themselves to provide compatibility for other planets when necessary, relieving me of the need to make any further compatibility patches myself.

The singular remaining compatibility patch is something that should probably be handled by Lignumis, since it's the one that pulls the Astroponics mod into the pack, and their wood ammo mod setting is the one that makes Astroponics required for space travel, so ideally they should be the ones to decide where to move the Astroponics tech, if necessary.

I'm a little hesitant to make the patch standalone, since the last time I did that, it became invalidated almost immediately by the Muluna author.

Even had the Astroponics author offering to incorporate the fixes into their mod, so they were both very open and willing to make the requisite changes. I'm sure the current Lignumis mod author is just too busy with other, more pressing matters at the moment to patch the issue from their side (it is just one additional tech, if you forego using this Lite pack, a relatively minor issue compared to the other kinds of issues they're regularly dealing with)

Regardless, I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed the pack so far! I'll be making the changes for the next update, whenever that may be (I think it might be a bit too late to just pull the 1.0.20 update and revert to 1.0.19)

To add to the Shattered planet being optional it's currently hard incompatible with K2: Spaced out, a very much sought-after mod.

Edit: The Author removed the incompatibility.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, it's funny that you already did what I proposed and it didn't work out because the incompatibility was fixed almost immediately, which is even funnier.

I do agree that the current issue isn't super critical and can be ignored if one wanted to use mods that aren't compatible with the Lite list or wanted to exclude specific planets.

Thank you again for taking the time to reply and maintaining this modpack.

After much consideration, Shattered Planet has been made optional, due to potential conflicts with other space age mods (thus allowing the user to select which endgame mod they want to use, or to stick with the vanilla endgame). Updated in v1.0.21
