🌐 Enable All Planet Mods

by Kryzeth

Simply has every currently available standalone planet mod on the mod portal as a forced requirement. Glorified shortcut to quickly enable all planets, moons, space locations, and exoplanetary systems (mainly used for compatibility testing). 🌐

i [Already Implemented] Enable All Planet Mods - Light

(updated 8 days ago)

I am not sure if something like this is already available, however:

Would it be possible to create the same Enable All Planet Mod Pack, but a "light" version to focus on quality planets, which removes the ones that offer too little or are very similar to what you would already find on Nauvis?

This is an effort to create a more fleshed-out add-on to Space Age as if the developers had expanded the planets more than the original SE planets, while also reducing loading time & crashes of the many dependent or optional mods.

Possible Planets to Remove:

  • Planets that require many dependent mods or UPS calculations to run (To reduce lag, FPS/UPS issues running all planets at once), ie: , Aiur, Char (This would eliminate Enemy Race manager and its many 2ndary mods that also affect Navius), Maraxsis, Castra

  • Planets that are either not completed or fleshed-out enough to make it feel lively or rewarded for the time investment, ie: Abacayba, Pelagos, Arrakis, Arboria

  • Gatekeeper planets that take up alot of time, stuck there till reach a lengthy threshold, or don't add any "value" to the game, ie: Erimos Prime

  • Off-base or adopted from other game Planets like: Woodrina (FarmVille/PokΓ©mon with poop factorio), Tiberian Dawn, Virentis, Aiur, Char

I understand that not everyone will agree with my examples and it's subjective to the style of the player.
I attempted to keep the heart of Factorio alive and chose the themes that suit it best.

Thank you for hearing me out!

You might have missed this part of the mod description, but Enable All Planets Lite IS a thing that exists already, and it should address most (if not all) of your concerns.

  1. All of the specified mods (except for Maraxsis) are already excluded from the Lite version of the pack. I haven't seen any UPS concerns regarding Maraxsis (as of yet), and simply having a lot of dependencies is no reason to exclude a mod from the pack, it just means that many parts of the planet can work standalone (or have been purposefully extracted for this reason, but were originally intended for the planet mod)
  2. It pains me to see Pelagos mentioned in the same breath as Arrakis and Arboria, as Pelagos is actively being worked on and adds plenty of content (unlike those other two). Abacayba has yet to prove its worth, but there's a reason all of those other mods are Optional even in the full version.
  3. Erimos Prime is marked as Optional (and Not Recommended) even in this modpack. The only other "gatekeeper" planets (Lignumis and Muluna) are similarly marked as Optional; it's up to the user whether or not to include those planets.
  4. Half of the specified planet mods are already marked as Optional. Virentis mentions Stardew Valley as part of its description, but graphically speaking has nothing to do with Stardew Valley, and even in terms of gameplay, is pretty far removed from Stardew. It is still WIP, so is not included in the Lite version of the pack. Tiber, I don't know the source material, but it has also been removed from the Lite version of the pack due to several issues (I should probably mention that here, or at least move it lower on the list)

The Lite version of this modpack purposefully excludes all of the planet mods that are labeled as abandoned, unmaintained, or not recommended, and should be close to what you are looking for. I won't be removing Maraxsis or Pelagos from the pack though; you'll have to make some modifications if you want to exclude those (which I do have instructions to do so)

If you want something that is even more selective than All Planets Lite (which is still a bit generous, including some WIP mods that have had time to mature), you can also try out Loup's Guide to the Galaxy, which includes the "bare minimum" of planet mods, while also marking several of the abandoned/unmaintained/not recommended planet mods as Incompatible. Although Loup's Guide does have Muluna included by default, which means you can't simply opt out of it.

I see that now, I feel dumb. Thank you very much. I was just tried of the game crashes just trying to boot up factorio and also it taking 10min to load all the mods, so I wanted to trim the fat down while still making it feel like a DLC expansion of more interesting planets, but as you can tell I don't care as much for water worlds.
