I got an error when trying to load this mod (Typed this out since you can't copy and paste from the window):
Failed to load mods: _ drone-roads /data-final-fixes.lua:2: attempt to index field 'Arci-asphalt' (a nil value)
stack trace back: _ _drone-roads
_/data-final-fixes.lua:2: in main chunk

Mods to be disabled:
drone-roads (0.0.3)

Edit:
so there's some weird formatting issues I noticed after posting so here's the screenshot:

Do you have a lot of mods that add extra tiles?

Several but none that I know of that would add asphalt outside of asphalt roads and transport drones.

Factorio has a limit on the number of tiles. Alien Biomes in particular makes it really easy to go over it.

If you go over the limit then asphalt can get removed, and that breaks things.

Try disabling drone road changer, turning on editor mode and look at the tile list. I'm 90% certain that asphalt won't be in there.

Ah, if that's the case then I can live without something like alien biomes or dectorio. Thanks Illiander :)

Remember that you can disable alien biome terrain granularly. So you don't have to live without it completely.

But yes, full alien biomes, full dectorio and full asphalt breaks the tile count just by themselves.

I wish the devs would release a "double tile count" version. It would double the size of save files, but would be so nice.

From what I read on the subject they were mostly opposed to it since they made it so everything runs on memory to keep the game running so quickly. Upping the tile limit would run the risk of making the game much more expensive to play on many pc's. They did mention they could bring it up to over 1k but 255 they felt was a reasonable number since vanila only uses 31. At least that's what the devs have said in reply to people asking. But yeah I'd agree that at least a double limit version would be ideal for people who like to play with a bit more than the game can natively allow. I myself have a bad habit of going mod shopping and end up running games with 150+ mods.

If you want the source of the devs talking about this btw it's here: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?t=56619
