i [implemented] Start tracking sites, when placing a miner

(updated a month ago)

I would like to a map option to only start tracking sites, if I add a miner on them. Currently, I have to press the miner button manually each time I use a new site. I don't want to track all sites that are visible because it doesn't provide me with useful data regarding lacking raw resources for production.

Maybe use a drop down for behavior selection:

Automatically track sites when:

  • Discovered
  • Mined
  • Never

I also consider the "Automatic" part of "Automatically look for miners and track the associated sites" confusing, because you have to actually press the button for it to do it. It might happen in the background, but it doesn't seem to behave like a toggle that can be turned on/off.

Maybe add the 3 way drop down also for map pins.

Automatically tag sites when:

  • Discovered
  • Mined
  • Never

Side question: Do you prefer the discussion here or over on GitHub?

Yes! This is something I've always wanted to add, just from my own playthroughs with the mod. I'd have to be optional though, as it could be quite impactful on performance. I like your suggestion with adding it as an option to the existing setting.

You're right about the confusing naming (it is not a toggle but a one-time search). I've changed the text to "Search for miners and track the associated sites". The button was meant to be a toggle for this feature that you requested, but it didn't work well enough so I changed it in an early version.

I'm fine with discussions either way, I just don't get to reply quickly all the time. If this place gets too crowded for my taste, I'll shut them down here like other mods do.

This feature is coming to 1.5.0

The "track on discover" functionality will be disabled by default because I honestly don't see many people use it (it is essentially a performance-option now).
