Display panel can display circuit amount as text

by Quezler

When you leave the label empty (or when it is a valid number) it'll show the circuit amount.

b not working well with larger display mods

title, any of the mods, it makes the screen bigger but the text dosen't go well

Suggestion/question, is it not possible to add (or create as separate mod) that makes the display pannel work like Nixie tubes? To give an exemple. I have a box with 239 iron plates. I connect the circuit to the 1st display panel. I either select iron plate or any. It will show iron plate. However, Just like with Nixie tubes, if I place another display panal next to it, it will start showing nr 9. 2 more and it will show 239. This will make display panals more superior because you can more easily see what is what, without needing to use 2 - 4 circuits. To this day I don't understand why the devs are so obsed with 1 circuit combiner for each task insted of adding mutiple IFs, removing the need for mutiple combinators and simiar. Anyways.

Suggestion/question: is it possible to create your own "larger version" of display screen exactly to make it 100% compatible and more readeble (VS if combined with other people's mod)?

To make it more clear what I'm trying to achive: Large display panales that show both the value as well as the item. Because currently, having a Large display panel for item and Nixies tubes, is more visually easy to read when you just use remote view and check mutiple things in a hurry.

how does this mod currently look for the larger ones?

The more I tryed to explain the more I realise I actually as asking for an overhaul without realising.... Aka as a conclusion of everything I explain, is to add a way to automatically change the value shown and the image displayed depending on the circuit signal it recives, just like how combinator work, aka without separatly create an image (label) for each possible item. And the second request/question if it's possible to add: Solid background VS the transparent.

Before I explain, I want to clarify that I’m talking about a very specific situation, namely viewing various values through the base via remote or character view. After all, I can tick the box for the values to show on the map view. But this results in a massive amount of numbers scattered around the map. Sure, if I don’t have multiple display panels close by, this is actually better and faster than remote view checking.

Secondly, I also mentioned that when I use the circuit network, if I want to display what the circuit signal is sending using the "anything" or "each" circuit function, I still need to manually set what item to display. And yes, I am aware this is something the devs messed up massively because they put so much effort into the display panel but did not create a way to display the image (label) of the item (like 10 iron in a chest that got converted into a signal of 10 with an iron image signal) it receives as a circuit signal using the "each," "everything," or "anything" function in the label, similar to how how combinator work using "each" and such, but the Label to display the initial Signal and not the "Each" signal itself. Or is it actually possible, and I’m not aware? And yes, I’m aware that if you create a blueprint with a parameter, when you place the blueprint, you can choose what label to use. Sadly, this is not the flexibility I need—namely, the ability to change the label (displayed image) based on the circuit signal. And yes again, I'm aware there is a possiblity to create "new message" and creating a condition like If Iron ore more then 1 show Label Iron ore, and IF there are 2 iron in the chest, to show chopper plate because of how signal works, and do so for each item, while using other combinators to change what to show... aka you need to manually set every last item, even if a parameter blueprint does help. yet magically this isen't needed with combinators dealing with the each signals (as in it dosen't show the Each signal itself)

Anyways:

The mod I have tried together with your mod (I take no credit or similar):
https://mods.factorio.com/mod/BiggerDisplayPanel

Looking at the avatar you have for the mod, the display panel is 3 times larger. However, the position of the numbers stays in the same position (instead of being above the panel).

This means that due to the display panel’s image/icon, the numbers might or might not be visible.

However, as I looked for the link for the above mod, I found a second mod that does NOT have the mentioned issues. The second mod being: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/larger-display-panels

As I tested, it doesn’t have the text placement issues, precisely because it places the text above the image as it should. As such, it might be the first mod’s compatibility issues? I am not sure, as I don’t understand modding (sadly...). But i guess the issues is caused by the 1st mod and not your mod. So this is solve (aka I'll just use the 2nd mod since it works with the your mod)

Anyways, back to what I was trying to explain at first. As far as I am able to tell, I’m actually trying to ask if it’s possible to create an overhaul... or if I were to be mean: to complete what the devs started.

So the idea is: add functionality similar to nixie tubes. Meaning, you just connect, select label, and you see the value just by connecting without any condtion or similar (>, <, =, so one)

On top of that, display the image of the circuit signal that IS send and not the "each" signal itself + together with the number text, without the need to define anything further. Again, just like how combinator recive and send signal, but the output is the labe that is displayed, with the "each" as a function to send a signal and not being the image itself (aka ability to easily and automatically change what is displayed without the need to create label for each and condition when to show)

On the idea of nitpicking—and more related to fluid and similar high values (like maybe ore patches?)—anything with a high value could be displayed as 20K instead of 20000. For example, 235349 is harder to read than 235K. But again, i don't know how much this is relevent for others and more a personal preference

Something I don’t understand how the devs failed to realise: transparent backgrounds do look better and more natural, but sadly, they always cause issues with readability. And while, sure, if you just want to read the details, you can click on the display panel to see them, as I’ve mentioned repeatedly, in this very specific situation, and even so it's jut a "MIGHT be difficult to read" siuation. So i am more about how the devs did not consider adding the option of solid background as a tickbox option. Aka the inteferance section. Anyways, ideeas is: is it possible to create a solid background?

I don’t know how unreasonable what I’m asking for is. For now, I do enjoy your mod since, as I mentioned, as long as I don’t put too many next to each other, it’s actually faster to use your mod via map (especially due to Parameter blueprints, aka just place and select the label), heck, like this I don't need any nixie tubes with large display panel. So for the last time, this is more for quickly looking around while in character and remote view + asking if it's possible to create a way to display the signal transmited as a label (image displayed) insted of the "Each" signal itself Without creating tons of manual condition of IF Y then show Z
