Instead of making all inserters only work on diagonal, why not let the inserters works like vanila when placed, but add the possibility of rotating then on 45 instead of 90?

Well that wasn't really the intent with this mod, the whole point of it is to make you think outside the box. With such a simple change, it affects so much and allows for so many more possibilities with factory design. It's both a challenge and a gift.

Also, there's another mod for 0.16 under the same name that does what you're asking, so you could change the version number in the info.json file of that mod to be 1.1, and it should work fine.

Last reason, if people wanted to make inserters customizable and effectively easier, why not just use Bob's Inserters?
