I placed a combinator facing an unused assembler, connections pointed towards the assembler. I opened the GUI, closed it, and placed a chest behind it. I opened the GUI and pressed Open module chest then it crashed. I couldn't replicate it

Which version are you running? In 0.15.2, line 196 in control.lua is empty...

I forgot I wasn't using the experimental version of factorio so it was an older version. Sorry for the long delay and posting errors from old versions
