Caesium

Adds hidden caesium ore and survey stations to find it. Sort the pollucite out of the pegmatite and refine it: about 100 ore make one caesium, used in sulfuric-acid catalysts, photocathodes, scintillators, atomic clocks, atom traps, oil and gas well treatment, and ion thrusters for Space Age platforms. Works with Space Age, Brevven's BZ mods, Krastorio 2, Space Exploration, Planetfall and Timeken.

Changelog

Version: 0.3.5
Date: 2026-10-28
  Bugfixes:
    - Well treatment stations wait until an infinite oil or gas well can absorb a full 2,000-unit treatment, avoiding wasted brine near full yield.
    - Preserve completed doses when overlapping stations fill the same well, and apply them when a full dose can fit. Paused crafts and saved stations retain their progress.
    - Newly built and upgraded stations check demand before consuming more brine. Idle status now explains the full-dose threshold.
Version: 0.3.4
Date: 2026-10-28
  Changes:
    - Survey satellites now survey one new chunk per second for ten minutes (600 chunks per satellite), replacing the instant scan around the silo.
    - Satellites automatically survey outward from the planet's origin, sharing progress and skipping chunks already surveyed by any method. Additional satellites add one chunk per second each; replacement launches continue the frontier.
    - Found deposits remain after a mission ends. Launch and expiry messages report coverage; /caesium-survey shows active missions and remaining time on the current surface.
    - Preserve survey history in existing saves. Space Age orbital survey arrays keep their existing operation.
Version: 0.3.3
Date: 2026-10-27
  Changes:
    - With Neodymium, X-ray sorters recover one copper ore from four heavy mineral sand, with 2% tin and lead chances where those ores exist.
    - Mixed-metal sorting requires both processing technologies, uses no magnets, and rejects productivity and quality.
Version: 0.3.2
Date: 2026-10-27
  Changes:
    - Magnetic pegmatite sorting requires a circulating neodymium magnet, returned with a 98% chance per batch.
    - Keep the extra 25% pollucite yield; X-ray sorting needs no magnet deliveries.
Version: 0.3.1
Date: 2026-10-23
  Changes:
    - Require Factorio 2.1.23 or later in the 2.1 series.
    - Mention Brevven's BZ mods in the searchable summary.
Version: 0.3.0
Date: 2026-10-17
  Changes:
    - Build connected purification, sealed-cell, clock-chamber and scintillator-finishing lines with supported external material packs.
    - These integration additions leave Fluffy-only recipes, machines and progression unchanged, with or without Space Age.

  Compatibility:
    - Requires Factorio 2.1.22 or later.
Version: 0.2.1
Date: 2026-10-12
  Compatibility:
    - Hyarion's crystal geology holds twice as many hidden pegmatites (one chunk in 75), with 50% more ore per tile. Muluna has no pegmatites or starter patch; survey stations pause there, as on Secretas.
    - Corrundum: optional caesium-promoted SO2 oxidation makes 150 sulfuric acid from 50 water, 50 sulfur dioxide and 1 catalyst in 10 seconds. The catalyst returns 98% of the time, without productivity or quality on the returned catalyst. Unlocks after Caesium processing and Sulfur redox 2, with acid productivity research shared from the ordinary recipe.
Version: 0.2.0
Date: 2026-10-12
  Features:
    - Space Age: reduce one caesium carbonate with one solid fuel or one carbon in 8 seconds. Fulgora can use fuel from scrap, and Gleba can use carbon without making coal. These alternatives also work with Magnesium and keep any glass ampoule and inert-gas costs.
    - Gleba: optional pollucite bioleaching in a biochamber uses 5 pollucite, 2 sulfur, 1 bioflux and 20 water to make 1 alum in 10 seconds, without productivity. Research follows Caesium processing and Bioflux.
    - Make atomic clocks, photocathodes and atom traps in electromagnetic plants as well as assemblers. Caesium chemistry also runs in cryogenic plants, including lithium-brine recovery and Phosphorus mixture preparation.
    - Infinite Caesium refining productivity uses red, green, blue, space and cryogenic science. Each level adds 10% metal yield to reduction recipes and Phosphorus distillation.
    - A new tip and Factoriopedia notes explain the caesium sources on each planet. Aquilo still imports processing units and steel for atom traps; platforms import caesium.
  Changes:
    - Ionisers and ionisation work only on space platforms. Ion thrusters replace ordinary thrusters in place.
    - Pegmatite ore and caesium weigh 2 kg, atomic clocks 10 kg and atom traps 0.5 kg.
    - Returned catalysts cannot gain quality through repeated use. Coal-fed Phosphorus reduction mixtures also accept carbon.
Version: 0.1.7
Date: 2026-10-12
  Bugfixes:
    - Space Age: caesium is back in the endgame, as the mod page describes. Since 0.1.2 the space platform starter pack, the quantum processor and cryogenic science took no caesium, and atom traps were hidden. Now the starter pack takes 1 atomic clock, the quantum processor 1 atom trap, and cryogenic science is made 10 packs at a time with 1 atom trap.
    - The Rocket silo research now needs Atomic clocks, and Quantum processor and Cryogenic science pack need Atom traps. In existing saves these Caesium researches are granted where you already researched those techs.
    - The same fix brings back the photocathodes in Krastorio 2's superior night vision, and in night-vision equipment where its research comes after blue science (BZ with Space Age).
    - Aquilo: "Caesium from lithium brine" can be unlocked again. It now comes with Lithium processing (after Caesium processing) instead of a research that needed the hidden Atom traps and could never be done.
    - Ion propulsion now needs Tungsten steel: the ioniser and the ion thruster are made from tungsten plate.
    - Only planets and moons hold pegmatites. Factory floors, sandbox and editor surfaces no longer get a starter patch, and Secretas, a gas giant, has none.
    - Better-quality X-ray ore sorters now sort faster, like other crafting machines.
    - Survey and magnetometer stations, the X-ray ore sorter, the well treatment station, the ioniser, the ion thruster and the orbital survey array now recycle into their ingredients instead of a quarter of themselves. Caesium intermediates still recycle into themselves.
  Compatibility:
    - Rabbasca and Tenebris Prime no longer make their own versions of the well treatment station and the orbital survey array, which would never top up a well or survey anything. Copies already built turn back into the normal buildings.
Version: 0.1.6
Date: 2026-10-12
  Bugfixes:
    - Atom trap research no longer appears in games where nothing uses atom traps when Flare Stack is installed. Recipes that only destroy an item, like Flare Stack's incinerator, no longer count as a use.
Version: 0.1.5
Date: 2026-10-04
  Balancing:
    - Magnesia with caesium recovery now has a 1% carbonate chance per craft, up from 0.05%:
one caesium carbonate per 100 crafts on average. Inputs, magnesia output, time and research stay the same.
    - Update the tooltip and balance documentation. Ordinary magnesia is unchanged; existing recovery
plants keep their recipes and use the higher chance immediately after updating.
Version: 0.1.4
Date: 2026-10-04
  Balancing:
    - The Phosphorus retort route now saves 50% of the reducing agent: 2 caesium carbonate and 1 magnesium (coal without Magnesium) make 2 reduction mixtures, each distilled into 1 caesium metal.
    - Mixing takes 4 seconds per pair; distillation remains 6 seconds per metal. Carbonate and optional packaging costs per metal are unchanged, and preparation cannot use productivity.
    - The direct chemical-plant recipe and blue-science unlock are unchanged. Existing mixture stock and retort setups continue working.
Version: 0.1.3
Date: 2026-10-04
  Features:
    - Added required Caesium parts to existing equipment recipes: 1 photocathode per laser turret or personal laser defense, 1 scintillator per centrifuge, 2 scintillators per nuclear reactor, and 1 atomic clock per beacon.
    - These equipment recipes require the matching Caesium research without adding later science packs. Overhaul integrations skip recipes where this would raise their science tier or create a research cycle.
  Graphics:
    - Enlarged survey and magnetometer stations to a radar-sized 3x3 footprint, with graphics and shadows scaled up by 50%.
    - Moved the survey progress label below the larger station. Both station tiers keep matching footprints for upgrades.
  Changes:
    - X-ray ore sorters now require two fast inserters for material handling, inheriting their material costs from the installed pack. Caesium processing requires their research; hand sorting remains optional.
    - Reworked Phosphorus retort distillation: prepare a reduction mixture in a chemical plant (2 seconds), then distil it in the retort (6 seconds). Uses the normal metal recipe's reductant and packaging materials instead of converting carbonate for free. Preparation cannot multiply output with productivity.
    - Clarified survey labels: surveyed area is shared between overlapping stations, while discoveries are counted per station.
    - Pegmatite discovery messages now stand out with an ore icon, highlighted text and a notification sound, alongside the clickable map location and ore amount. Player notification and sound preferences are respected.
  Bugfixes:
    - Fixed the map-tag API call so newly discovered deposits receive their map markers, including after a chunk finishes charting.
Version: 0.1.2
Date: 2026-10-03
  Changes:
    - Survey stations now upgrade a radar: 1 radar, 5 steel plates and 5 electronic circuits, crafted in 10 seconds.
    - Geological survey now requires radar and steel processing research. Overhaul packs also inherit the research and science packs needed to make the station's ingredients.
Version: 0.1.1
Date: 2026-09-30
  Compatibility:
    - With Manganese (trikop), the X-ray ore sorter is lined with mangalloy instead of steel. Caesium processing then also needs the Mangalloy research (30 red science, which railway already needs).
Version: 0.1.0
Date: 2026-09-30
  Major Features:
    - Hidden pegmatite ore: never placed by map generation, found by survey stations, magnetometer stations, seismic charges, seismic artillery shells, survey satellites and, with Space Age, the orbital survey array. Every player on the same map finds the same patches.
    - The X-ray ore sorter sorts pollucite out of pegmatite ore at the mine; about 100 pegmatite ore make one caesium.
    - Caesium catalysts, photocathodes, scintillators, atomic clocks and atom traps, required only in machines researched after the matching Caesium research.
    - Optional catalysed sulfuric acid: 60 acid instead of 50 at half the pollution.
    - Formate brine and well treatment stations bring tired infinite oil and gas wells back toward full yield.
    - Space Age: ion thrusters, the orbital survey array, caesium in quantum processors and cryogenic science, and caesium from Aquilo's lithium brine.
  Compatibility:
    - BZ, Timeken, Planetfall, Krastorio 2, Space Exploration and AAI Signal Transmission: real-process materials and host recipes per pack.
    - Links to Cadmium, Tellurium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Gallium and Neodymium.
