It would make things more exciting :) Perhaps optional with a setting.
Have also been wondering about a setting to make the teleporters primary electricity consumers, like laser turrets. They have some similarities in that both are infrequent consumers and, with your idea added to the mix, both would demand full power to operate reliably.
