Any way to deactivate the Artifacts midgame?

Save and exit to main menu.
From the main menu, go through settings into mod settings, and turn off the artifacts options.
the game will restart.
Load your savegame, All artifacts will be deleted on load, no more will drop, all recipes that use artifacts will either be changed to not need them, or be deleted (EG, no reason for alien acid, or blue alien metal, or alien science packs, when you don't have the ingredients available), so you may have to check any factories to feed them new ingredients.

You'll have to make sure you change the settings on the server, which I've heard can be tricky. Your best bet is to copy the settings file from a client install after making the changes there, but yes, it will work on servers too.
