I was just playing the Maraxsis start and realised the this mod requires wood and so only works if you are on Nauvis, perhaps a combat shotgun variant can be added that uses instead of wood and could perhaps have different stats to be a side grade for the normal shotgun.

There's a startup mod setting you can enable to remove wood from the recipe for that exact reason, you should be able to enable that and be good to go.
