Ive uploaded a modified version of this mod to github. I've reduced the size from ~10MB to ~3MB

Just download into mod folder (no need top zip since Factorio will use the unzipped version over a zipped one if they're the same version).
I dont know if this will solve the issue but may worth a try.
Your version is simply missing a load of textures which crash the game on load up. Once the textures have been added back in - your reduced file size goes back up to the original. Pointless.
