This has ignited my imagination. I have a couple suggestions.

This season thing could affect biter behavior, making them more aggressive or peaceful. Mating seasons where they spawn more.

Also possible weather effects like rain or wind.

Photo-voltaic cells realistically work better in the cold, they work better under direct sunlight, and they work best when both of those conditions are met. Covered in mineral oil they work the best. Days in the arctic where the sun never sets and it is always below freezing, solar panels generate the most output per day, and the most output period. If you are looking for realism, you should consider these facts.

Whatever you're thinking sounds like it would work well with Alien Biomes mod :D

I don't think it would be important to implement seasonal temperature changes in solar panel output because any gain you get per panel is met with a loss by the number of panels you can use due to the angle of the sun. Not making the change simply makes gameplay easier.
