Since you're updating the mod, is there an option to have the station pick it's color based on the color of the icon in it's name? (first if multiple) it'll be really handy for parametrized stations and will save the need to also download the train painter mod because of the new automatic painting feature

Probably not. The Automatic Train Painter mod does the heavy lifting for assigning colors to the items. Nominally:

• ATP paints the train based on item colors;
• the train pulls into the station; and
• ASP uses the train color to blend (blend rate configurable) the station color.

Alternatively, you can assign colors to your trains manually as step 1. Steps 2-3 remain the same.
