Since 1.0, still has max size of 42 althought setting is higher... I have some rather large lengths
Safety measure to prevent people from having too large limits their PC can't handle. Install https://mods.factorio.com/mod/WideChestsUnlimited to unlock unlimited sizes.
EDIT: I forgot to update that mod to 1.0 as well, will do that right now.
